Our naturopath formulated Sweet dreams organic herbal tea helps support a deeper, more rejuvenating sleep cycle. Herbs used in this blend have traditionally been used to support the nervous system, aid relaxation and improve sleep quality.
Passionflower – The increased GABA in the brain that Passionflower can induce helps reduce anxiety so often associated with insomnia. In addition, Passionflower is known to be a muscle relaxant, easing away tension that can make it more difficult to drift off to sleep.
Lemon verbena – Contains mildly sedative properties. Beneficial for the management of nervous system disorders such as depression, insomnia and anxiety. Lemon verbena contains melatonin, a hormone that promotes sleep.
Chamomile – Contains apigenin, a natural compound that binds to certain receptors in your brain that may reduce insomnia, alleviate stress, nervousness and irritability. Chamomiles relaxing properties extend to the gut, helping ease abdominal pain and menstrual cramps.
Valerian root – A well known herb used to treat insomnia and sleeping difficulties. It contains mild sedative properties without feeling groggy the next morning. Valerian root is also effective in reducing nervous tension, stress and anxiety to promote a good night’s sleep.
Lavender – A popular herb used in traditional western herbal medicine to reduce stress, aid sleep, and relieve the symptoms of a headache.
Precautions: Chamomile may cause allergic reactions in those allergic to ragweed.
You should not consume valerian if you are taking a medication used to treat anxiety, insomnia, seizures, or other psychiatric disorders. Valerian may interfere with these drugs.

How to brew the perfect cup of tea
Measurements & ratios
The recommended ratio is 1 teaspoon per cup of hot tea. If you like it nice and strong, add an extra teaspoon and brew for the recommended time.
Save your milk for black teas – most green and herbals are best served straight up.
Swill a little hot water in your teapot or cup, then discard. This will keep your teawares from cooling your tea too quickly. Green and herbal teas prefer 80°C, so just combine 20% cold water with 80% boiling water.
- Black tea & Oolong 100°C 2-4 minutes
- Green tea 80°C 1-3 minutes
- Herbal & floral tisanes 80°C 3-5 minutes
- Rooibos & honeybush tisanes 100°C 3-5 minutes
Loose leaf vs. tea bags
One of the main reasons we love loose leaf tea is the flavour. Usually loose leaf tea is higher quality than the tea in tea bags. Sometimes, tea bags are used to disguise lower quality tea leaves, but with loose leaf you can’t get away with that.
Most commercial tea bags are created using plastics, bleaches, glues, staples and other nasty things that are best avoided in your daily cuppa.
Another reason is because we love the environment. We hate to have a compostable material such as organic tea & herbs trapped inside little plastic pouches. Our teas are completely organic, so be sure to empty your loose tea leaves into the compost or the garden.
